CHARLOTTESVILLE (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – The Charlottesville School Board has voted to bring SROs back into the schools, with the first step forming a working group to do more research and craft a “memorandum of understanding”. City Police Chief Mike Kochis says this is totally the School Board’s decision and process matters. He says it’s important there’s input from all points of view and stakeholders in the city community. He says he believes no matter where people have weighed in on this issue, they “come from a good place”.

Kochis says the first part of this is getting the right people in the room and put together the best product that’s in the best interest of the students in our schools. The Chief says the extent of his involvement so far was about a year ago when he was asked to present some SRO models to the board, but he’s had nothing to do with the Thursday night decision.
