CHARLOTTSVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW/THE DAILY PROGRESS) – The downtown Dewberry hotel property is on the market, and The Daily Progress editor Reynolds Hutchens tells Morning News possible suitors have been touring the property. Such as it is, it’s an incomplete shell, but Hutchens says engineers have inspected the partial building which — although exposed to elements over a decade — remains structurally sound.

Hutchens says they know some major hotel properties have toured including Hilton and Marriott. He notes those companies don’t do the development themselves but will likely team up with a developer to build the property, then the hotel company puts their flag on it. He also does not expect the Downtown Mall hotel will have the Marriott or Hilton name on it per se. They’ll likely name it one of their other brands. For instance, one of the Marriott brands of City Express, A-Loft, or Four Points; or in the case of Hilton, Tempo or Motto just as they already have a Graduate on West Main Street.
