LOS ANGELES, CA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Monday night on The Voice on NBC, UVA 3rd year student Simone Marijic wowed the judges and landed on Kelsi Ballerini’s team. Simone has honed her chops at the University of Virginia as a member of the Virginia Belles, an a capella group formed in 1977. She sang Olivia Rodrigo’s “favorite crime” and got Ballerini’s chair to turn just a couple of lines in.
Ballerini looked at her fellow judges incredulously as she was the only one to turn, but then Michael Buble turned his chair close to Marijic’s last line when she hit the higher notes of the song. Ballerini and Buble fought for Simone’s decision and she chose Ballerini as her coach. The judges asked where she’s from and she answered she was born and raised in L.A. However, when Ballerini quipped the boots she was wearing threw her off, Marijic answered that she goes to school in Virginia, “at the University of Virginia”. UVA Today reports a watch party happened at Pink House which is where the Virginia Belles live off 14th Street just off The Corner. Click here to read that article where they report the room “erupted in cheers” when she chose to be part of the 12 members of Team Ballerini.
