CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – UPDATE 2/7 7:45AM: Rappahannock Electric Cooperative continues restoring service to what was 26,000 who lost power during yesterday morning’s ice storm. Some 1200 in Culpeper, 800 in Madison, and 600 in Greene counties are still without electricity this morning, and REC says some of those may not see power restored until the weekend. Rappahannock and Fauquier counties were also hard-hit.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – UPDATE 2/6 1:10PM: Dominion Energy and Rappahannock Electric Cooperative have been working throughout the day to restore power lost by thousands during the morning freezing rain. Northern and western Albemarle have been most impacted, along with Greene, Madison, and especially Culpeper counties. There have been few estimates when power will be fully restored, but crews are working as fast as they can to fix the problems.

As rain through the area increasingly froze through the early morning on surfaces, power outages in especially the northern and western parts of our area became a story. As of 7am, more than 4200 combined Dominion Energy and Rappahannock Electric Cooperative customers were without power in Culpeper County. More than 7200 REC customers were out in Greene County, and 1900 REC customers out in Madison County. Some 2000 Dominion customers lost electricity in Staunton, and 150 out in Augusta County, and 200 out in Waynesboro.

716 Dominion customers were out in Rockingham County, and more than 1000 REC customers were out in Orange County. These numbers will fluctuate throughout the morning, but be aware of power outage possibilities as you travel north and west in our area and rains continues to fall and freeze onto trees and power lines.
