Special niece Vicky Wingfield. Close friends Lynnley Thornton and Paul and Kim Miller.
“Pops”, as he was so often known, was a fixture of the southern Albemarle and Scottsville communities and was known by many of his friends and neighbors for his piercing blue eyes, and friendly disposition. He was a jokester at heart and never met a stranger.
He retired from UVA after 35 years of painting and was proud of the work he had done there. He often talked about painting the Rotunda and other buildings around there.
In his younger years he enjoyed spreading cheer through the delivery of singing telegrams, though he might say he couldn’t sing. Later in life he also enjoyed watching westerns and singing Christian music with his daughters. He had a deep and abiding faith that guided him always.
His true love though, was his family. A devoted father, he cared for his children in many ways, from conveying support and wisdom when needed, to making sure they knew when their car registration was up for renewal.
He was definitely one of a kind and he will be truly missed.
His daughters wish to extend their sincere thanks to all those that cared for him in the days leading up to his passing, in particular Katie with Hospice of the Piedmont.
