WASHINGTON, D.C. (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Virginia will receive more than $1.4 million dollars in federal funding to identify and control lead-based paint hazards in eligible homes.

Many older homes still have lead-based paint on walls, which is dangerous when it peels and chips.

Young children are most susceptible to lead poisoning and can face long-term developmental delays if exposed.

The state as a whole will receive $700,000. An additional $750,000 will go to the city of Roanoke.

The funding is part of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) Lead Hazard Reduction Grant Program.
