ORANGE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Saturday is your chance to see history unfold at James Madison’s Montpelier with a re-enactment of the visit 200 years ago by the Marquis de Lafayette. He stopped by the President’s home on his farewell tour of the United States, and the American Friends of Lafayette — a historical and patriotic society dedicated of Major General Gilbert Motier. The event begins at 10:30 Saturday morning with an arrival of the Marquis de Lafayette and Governor James Barbour, traveling in a horse-drawn carriage, They’ll be welcomed by James and Dolley Madison on the front portico, then after initial greetings and conversation, they’ll make their way to the front lawn and greet visitors.

It’s free to purchasers of a grounds or House tour pass. A presentation, followed by a re-enactment of conversation between the Marquis and Madison, will happen at 2 in the David M. Rubenstein Visitors Center. Click here for all the information about Montpelier.
