Charlottesville, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Dr. Edwin T. Burton, a respected economic analyst and professor, recently discussed the state of inflation and rising interest rates on WINA Morning News, stressing the impact on everyday Americans. “Interest rates have ticked up quite a bit… that’s kind of a negative sign for the economy,” Dr. Burton stated, explaining that the rise in long-term rates is affecting mortgages, car loans, and commercial lending. He attributed these rate increases to concerns over the national debt, a subject he feels political leaders are neglecting. “You have to begin to tackle the national debt… and the markets… they’re expressing their concern right now.”

Dr. Burton also discussed the uneven impact of inflation, which he said hits the lower-income population especially hard. “Prices are still going up… and that’s a hardship for most Americans,” he noted, calling attention to the disconnect between national economic indicators and the daily realities facing many households.

On a positive note, Dr. Burton highlighted the importance of charitable giving, encouraging people to support causes they believe in. “People should give to things that they believe in,” he said, emphasizing that philanthropy should be motivated by a genuine passion for the work organizations are doing, rather than just tax benefits.
