Albemarle County, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Albemarle County Police Department’s lead recruiter, Officer Kevin Deane, joined WINA Morning News to discuss the rewards and challenges of a career in law enforcement as part of National Career Development Month. During the interview, Officer Deane emphasized the fulfillment officers experience from helping the community. “It’s so rewarding when you actually, genuinely help people… it’s not all about just arresting people, but…helping the community,” he said.
Officer Deane also highlighted the intensive training recruits undergo before joining the force, a process that spans approximately 10 months. Recruits go through a four-week in-house training, followed by 20 weeks at the regional academy in Weirs Cave, and an additional five weeks of department-specific training, finishing with 12 weeks of hands-on field training. This extensive preparation, according to Officer Deane, is crucial. “If you don’t have up-to-date training in the area, you’re going to fail as an officer,” he explained.
For those interested in joining, Officer Deane encouraged potential recruits to visit the ACPD’s website to learn more about the application process.
