Charlottesville, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW): UVA Men’s Soccer took to the pitch in Raleigh yesterday evening as slight underdogs against the NC State Wolfpack.  The home side, seeded eighth, looked the favorites against the ninth seeded Hoos, but UVA entered play on a strong run of form to end the regular season that saw them stumbling at the start of the year.   The Wolfpack had early control of the game despite the Hoos looking dangerous in attack.  UVA keeper Joey Batrouni was forced to make an early save, and he stayed sharp throughout most of the first half.  However, a defensive lapse in the 36th minute allowed the dynamic NC State attackers to pounce, Taig Healy timed his run perfectly and shook the twine at the back post to give the Wolfpack the lead.  Towards the end of the first half though, David Okorie checked into the game for UVA in place of Cesar Cordova, and Tom Miles would start the second half in place of Batrouni.  These changes proved vital, as the second half belonged to the Hoos.  Miles made three huge saves to give the Wolfpack on the scoresheet, along with Nick Dang making a last-ditch goal-line clearance holding the home side to one goal.  That opened play up at the other end for another substitute, Triston Beauvois to get on the end of a Paul Wiese cross and level the score in the 71st minute.  Before the Wolfpack could blink, Okorie volleyed in a Beauvois cross some 20 seconds later to give the Hoos a late lead.  Thanks to the defense, that score would hold, and the Hoos earned themselves a chance to face #1 ranked Pittsburgh in the next round of the ACC tournament.  Regardless of the result against Pitt, UVA’s performance has improved their likely standing when it comes time for the NCAA tournament later this month.  Unquestionably, the substitutes were the heroes when in the most important game of the year, said Coach George Gelnovatch of their performance “…I was impressed with the great winning spirit and contribution from guys that came off the bench like Triston, David and Tom.”
