CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – The University of Virginia’s basketball program faced another setback as Charlottesville native and four-star point guard Chance Mallory announced his decommitment. Mallory, previously committed to UVA, is reopening his recruitment following the recent retirement of head coach Tony Bennett.  Despite this decision, sources indicate that Mallory may still consider Virginia among his options moving forward.

Mallory’s announcement coincided with news that UVA senior guard Jalen Warley has entered the transfer portal, further affecting the team’s lineup.  Mallory had initially committed to UVA over schools like Virginia Tech, Clemson, and Villanova.  The departure of Bennett has created uncertainty for the Cavaliers, leaving interim head coach Ron Sanchez and staff in a challenging position as they work to retain top talent amid program changes.
