ALBEMARLE COUNTY, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Detectives with the Albemarle County Police Department Criminal Investigations Division have announced the indictment of two individuals in the February 21, 2023, homicide of Joshua Lamont Jones, 34, of Charlottesville. The arrests for two were made on October 7, and a third would have been charged had he himself not been murdered the next month inside the Sunshine Mini Mart on Cherry Avenue.

The suspects, Torius Jihad Price, 22, and Taquarius Olando Catoe-Anderson, 22, both from Albemarle County, face three felony charges each, including first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

“While nothing can undo the pain caused by this act of violence in our community, we hope these arrests will begin to bring some closure to the victim’s family and send a clear message that we remain committed to seeking justice,” said Captain Darrell Byers of ACPD’s Criminal Investigations Division.

Byers added that there was a third individual connected to Jones’ death who could not be brought to justice because he was murdered in March of 2023. The third suspect was Justice Kilel, who was killed at the SunShine Mini Mart on Cherry Avenue ten days after Jones’ murder. Charlottesville and Albemarle saw six murders during the first three months of 2023. Jones’ murder marks the only one that took place in Albemarle.

The investigation is ongoing, and ACPD urges anyone with information to contact the Criminal Investigations Division at 434-296-5807 or, to remain anonymous, CrimeStoppers at 434-977-4000.
