Charlottesville, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Simon Davidson of Charlottesville29.com joined the show to continue the Friday tradition of discussing the local food scene. Davidson, a long-time observer of Charlottesville’s culinary evolution, shared his reflections on how the city’s restaurant landscape has transformed over the past few decades.

“In this industry, it’s famous for short lives… these 4 that were there… that’s amazing,” Davidson said, referring to the few restaurants that have remained since he first moved to Charlottesville in 1992. He explained that only four of the current “Charlottesville 29” were around when he arrived, emphasizing the rapid turnover in the industry.

Davidson attributed the longevity of these establishments to their dedication and love for the craft. “They don’t just sell to the highest bidder. They sell to former employees or current employees who they knew have the same love that could sustain it.” he noted, highlighting the importance of thoughtful transitions in ownership.

As Charlottesville’s food scene continues to evolve, Davidson’s reflections offer a rare glimpse into its history and the key factors driving the success of its longest-standing institutions.
