CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – As WINA reported there have now been four confirmed shootings in the last few days and Charlottesville Police Chief Michael Kochis joined WINA Morning News to provide the community with an update on the progress of the investigation. He also confirmed that they had reports of three firearms stolen from unlocked vehicles over the weekend and encouraged responsible gun ownership.
During the interview, Chief Kochis emphasized that while progress is being made in the investigation, there are no concrete connections between the suspects at this time.
Community reactions have been strong, with parents expressing concerns, especially those who were near the scene. “I got several emails specifically from parents who were dropping their little kids off at ballerina practice,” Kochis shared.
He highlighted the troubling trend of irresponsible gun ownership in the community, stressing the impact this has on safety. “If you’re going to own a firearm, be a gun owner, be a responsible one. I just think we’re seeing too many irresponsible gun owners right now,” Kochis stated.
As the investigation continues, Chief Kochis asked for the community’s cooperation and assured residents that his team is dedicated to resolving the case and keeping Monticello safe.
