PARIS (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) Following the conclusion of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, The Sport Geek conducted a study to determine which U.S. state earned the most medals out of the 126 won by Team USA during the 16 days of competition. Multiple medals were counted for team sports, including each athlete from the 32 states that the medal-winners represented.

Unsurprisingly, California topped the list with a total of 47 medals (15 gold, 11 silver, and 21 bronze), driven by its large population. The top five states were rounded out by Florida with 22 medals, Texas with 20, and New York and Illinois, both with 17. Virginia narrowly missed the top five, finishing 7th with a total of 14 medals, including 8 golds.

Notable Virginians contributing to the medal count included Noah Lyles of Alexandria, who claimed the 100-meter dash title, Grant Holloway of Chesapeake, who won the 110-meter hurdles, and Arlington’s Tori Huske, who earned individual gold in the 100-meter butterfly and relay golds in the 4×100 freestyle relay and 4×100 mixed medley relay.
