CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – A flood warning is in effect until 1:30 this (Monday) afternoon. The National Weather Service says small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected for a portion of central Virginia including Albemarle County and Charlottesville. Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. At 729 AM EDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Flooding is already occurring in the warned area. Between 1 and 2 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts up to 0.5 inches are possible in the warned area.
Some locations that will experience flooding include Charlottesville, Monticello, Newcomb Hall, Scott Stadium, Barracks, Carrsbrook, Hollymead, and Woodridge.
This includes the following flood prone roads Route 53 near Monticello, Route 795 at Ashlawn Drive, Ivy Road, Route 20/Route 708 at North Fork Hardware River, Carters Mountain Road near Murphy`s Creek, Route 620 at Buck Island Creek, North Berkshire Road, Cherry Ave from Ridge St to Roosevelt Brown Blvd, Cherry Avenue at Highland Avenue, McIntire Road at Route 250, 6th Street Southeast, Meade Avenue at Market Street, and High Street at Long Street.
