CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – The Charlottesville Tom Sox were not going to let a little inclement weather stand in the way of a doubleheader sweep of the Waynesboro Generals on Wednesday evening.

After a two-hour thunder and lightning delay, game one got underway at 7:05. Coastal Carolina hurler Chase Stryker took the ball and pitched his way to a victory in 4 2/3 innings of work. Eight batters came to the plate for the Tom Sox in the top of the third, including Virginia commit Isaac VanderWoude, who went deep for his first home run of the season. Three more runs in the fourth gave the Sox a six-run lead.

Despite earning one run back from a solo home run, Waynesboro had no answers for the Tom Sox offense, who batted around again in the top of the sixth to reach a score of 11-1. After three quick outs in the bottom half of the frame, the run-rule was called.

Waynesboro then elected to forfeit the second game due to the hour and a depleted roster, giving the Tom Sox two wins in one night. They have now lengthened their division lead over the Harrisonburg Turks to 4 1/2 games.

The Tom Sox will return home for another doubleheader tomorrow night (July 19) vs. the Covington Lumberjacks. Both Educator Awareness Night and Bark in the Park Night will be celebrated at Charlottesville High School.
