CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – The Charlottesville Tom Sox and Virginia Cavaliers were represented well Monday on Day Two of the Major League Baseball draft.

Three former Tom Sox players were selected on the second day of the 2024 MLB First-Year Player Draft, as announced by their respective clubs Monday. Players selected include 2023 ‘Sox pitcher Davian Garcia (Florida Gulf Coast), 2022 pitcher Fisher Jameson (Florida), and 2022 first baseman/outfielder Carter Cunningham (East Carolina). The three former ‘Sox join 2022 pitcher Trey Yesavage, who was selected with the 20th overall pick in Sunday’s first round.

Garcia kicked off the festivities, being chosen in the sixth round (170th overall) by the Washington Nationals.
Next up was 2022 hurler Fisher Jameson, who was chosen with the 288th overall pick (10th round) by the Colorado Rockies.
Last, but certainly not least, East Carolina’s Carter Cunningham joined teammate Trey Yesavage as the Blue Jays’ newest pieces, being selected with the 307th overall pick.

Outfielder Casey Saucke was selected in the fourth round (107th overall) by the Chicago White Sox, becoming the third Cavalier taken in this year’s draft. It marks the third time in four seasons that UVA had three players taken in the first five rounds of the draft. In the Brian O’Connor era (2004-present) three or more players have been taken in the first five rounds a total of 10 times.
Saucke is the 101st MLB Draft selection from UVA since 2004.
Griff O’Ferrall and Ethan Anderson were taken in the 1st and 2nd round respectively by the Baltimore Orioles on the draft’s first day Sunday.
