CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – On Sunday evening July 7th, at John Moxie Memorial Stadium, the Charlottesville Tom Sox (20-8) fell to the Staunton Braves (12-14) in an 11-10 slugfest that lasted 11 innings. The four-and-a-half-hour game was the longest in team history.
Charlottesville took an early lead with a solo home run by Jake Books in the first inning. Tom Sox starting pitcher Bobby Olsen delivered four scoreless innings, supported by strong defense.
In the fourth inning, Cooper Blauser’s two-run homer extended the Tom Sox lead to 3-0, followed by a double by Sam Mummau, making it 4-0. The Braves responded in the fifth and sixth innings, narrowing the gap to 4-2.
The Tom Sox added another run in the seventh, but the Braves scored five runs in the bottom of the inning to take an 8-5 lead. Charlottesville rallied in the eighth, regaining a 9-8 advantage, but Staunton tied the game in the bottom half.
The Tom Sox scored in the top of the 11th to lead 10-9, but the Braves answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning, securing an 11-10 victory.
The Tom Sox, now 20-8, will return home on Tuesday to face the Covington Lumberjacks on Educator Appreciation Night, with the first pitch set for 7 p.m.
