 As Charlottesville United for Public Education prepares to host a public listening session tonight at 6 at the Charlottesville High School’s Martin Luther King Center for the Performing Arts, city schools have named former CHS principal Kenneth Leatherwood as interim principal.

Following violent brawling among Charlottesville High School students, the Charlottesville School Board has ordered teachers and administrators to spend the Monday and Tuesday before Thanksgiving break working on a “reset” of the school climate while students begin their holiday break early.

Following classes being canceled Friday at Charlottesville High School Friday due to lack of staffing,

Classes will resume Monday with a police presence outside the school.

The decision comes after conferring with Albemarle County Commonwealth’s Attorney Jim Hingeley.

The Albemarle County Fire Marshal’s Office has implemented an open-air burn ban, effective immediately until further notice.

Shenandoah National Park says the fire atop Afton Mountain has closed a portion of Skyline Drive, and some firefighters have been moved to this one from Madison County.

Charlottesville High School classes are cancelled today, and questions arise if it was an outbreak of violence yesterday that prompted a shortage of staff today.
