CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) — In an effort to help preserve America’s national parks for both humans and dogs alike, Colorado-based Zuke’s Dog Treats has launched a new campaign, pledging to match up to $25,000 in consumer donations to benefit three national park nonprofit partners, including The Shenandoah National Park Trust.
Zuke’s will also be matching donations for Friends of Acadia, which supports Acadia National Park in Maine, and Sequoia Parks Conversancy, which supports Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks in California.
Starting this month and through the end of the year, customers can scan included QR codes specifically marked Zuke’s packages to visit specific donation matching pages for each of the selected organizations.
SNPT Corporate and Foundations Manager Ethan Serr told Cville Right Now the Trust was chosen in part due to Shenandoah being “one of the most dog-friendly national parks in the county,” featuring over 400 miles of dog-friendly trails.
The park also holds the unique benefit, as one of the major parks on the East Coast, of not having the bigger predators that many parks on the West Coast have.
“Most national parks are actually really restrictive around where you can take a dog, or even if you can take dogs,” Serr said.
This allows more opportunities for dogs and dog owners to explore the park together, creating the long-lasting memories that Zuke’s is hoping to encourage with its campaign.
“Some of the best moments with our dogs happen outside, exploring places like these parks,” Zuke’s Senior Brand Manager J.P. Vella said in a statement. “Protecting them means more people and their dogs can keep making those memories. This partnership lets our community turn everyday adventures into lasting support for the places that give us so much.”
While Zuke’s will be matching customer donations up to $25,000, Serr said the company has already pledged a donation of at least $20,000.
“We’re already super excited by the support that they’ve been able to give to us, the parks partner,” he said.
Serr said the “sizeable” donation will help SNPT continue to hit its goal of giving $1 million every year, a long-held target the Trust just surpassed.
For this partnership with Zuke’s in particular, Serr said the trust decided to “match the messaging” and make sure the funds raised went toward trail projects and other visitor-facing projects.
These projects currently include restoration work on trails like Cedar Run and Whiteoak Canyon.
“These are some pretty famous trails that we’re doing some restoration work on that this collaboration will directly benefit,” Serr said.
Those interested can find the QR Code to donate on limited edition packages of Zuke’s “Adventure Sticks”, which feature unique artwork and the tagline “Explore More in Shenandoah.” These can be purchased online at Zuke’s website or a Target, Petco, Pet Supplies Plus and Meijer.
Donations can also be made directly to the campaign on SNPT’s website.
