VIRGINIA BEACH, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) Z95.1 won a pair of first-place awards and sister station 92.7 C-Ville Country picked up another at the Virginia Association of Broadcasters Summer Convention last week in Virginia Beach.
Sherry Taylor’s December interview with Pastor Kent Hart earned the best human interest series award, while Z95.1’s ‘Valentines for the Troops’ was honored as the public service/community event.
C-Ville Country’s Tom Morgan and Paul “Uncle Pauly” McDaniel were named the best radio personality or team.
Both stations are part of the Charlottesville Media Group – which also operates Cville Right Now. The company scored runner-up honors for The Corner’s Jason Crane’s documentary on Australian singer-songwriter Alana Wilkinson, and for WINA’s Luke Neer’s monologue on the retirement of UVA basketball coach Tony Bennett.
“We’re incredibly proud of our CMG stations,” said Garrett Klingel, President and General Manager of Charlottesville Media Group. “These awards highlight the creativity, heart, and dedication our stations pour into every project — from celebrating local voices to supporting our community. It’s an honor to see their work recognized at the state level.”
In all, Saga Communications, which owns CMG, took home nine first-place honors at the 88th annual event.
“These awards are a powerful reflection of the creativity, dedication, and connection our stations have with their communities,” said Wayne Leland, Chief Operating Officer of Saga Communications. “We’re honored by the recognition from the Virginia Association of Broadcasters and proud of the teams behind these incredible achievements.”
