ALBEMARLE COUNTY, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Grace Pauline Kelley, daughter of country music star Wynonna Judd, is being held without bond for allegedly making off with a local church van on October 27th, but Ground Zero Church of the Nazarene forgives her.

“I think that this whole situation presents an opportunity for the church to really be the church, the way the church is supposed to be,” says pastor Kent Hart. “Jesus says love your enemies, bless those who persecute you and pray for them.”

Hart was at the kitchen table with his family when he looked out the window and saw the van leaving his driveway. He called his father to see if he had borrowed it. When his father said no, Hart took off in his SUV and soon found the van stopped along the side of the road.

“Maybe not the wisest decision,” he admits, “but I got out of the Yukon and started yelling, ‘you stole my van, that’s my van, give me my van!'”

Instead, the van took off. Still on its tail, Hart called his wife, who called 911. Albemarle Police Officer Corey Legg was able to stop the vehicle and said in his report that 28-year-old Kelley stated during the booking process that she had sold her soul to the devil and asked to be committed to a mental institution. Officer Legg advised the jail staff that Kelley may have taken something. She was taken to UVA Medical Center, where she tested positive for heroin.

Kelley is now being held without bond as she awaits her January 2 appearance in Albemarle General District Court, where she faces seven counts, among them three felony counts of grand larceny for allegedly stealing the van and trailer that Hart and his church used to move church gear. She’s also charged with destruction of property. The church van’s insurance company determined it to be a total loss, with a GoFundMe account set up to help the church buy a new van.

“We want her to be reconciled, and to be rehabilitated,” Hart says. “And I believe that the consequences of her actions are a means of grace that will aid in steering her back that way. So, we want her to absolutely face the consequences. But on a personal level, we hold nothing against her. And if there ever is an opportunity for our church to partner in her redemptive process, I would love to be a part of that.”
