CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – The Waynesboro Police Department has made arrests in connection with a Sep. 4 incident involving a gun at the city’s William Perry Elementary School.
A student learned upon arrival that an adult they knew had placed a firearm in their bookbag, which the student immediately reported to administrators. Staff promptly secured the bookbag, notified law enforcement, and fully cooperated when officers arrived. Officers took possession of the firearm and began an immediate investigation, resulting in two arrests.
Crystal Monique Harris was taken into custody without incident by the Waynesboro Police Department last Friday. She has been charged with child endangerment and misdemeanor reckless handling of a firearm to endanger life or limb of a child under 14. She has been released on an un-secured bond.
Christopher Richard Cook was taken into custody in Albemarle County on Sunday. Cook has been charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance with knowledge and intent to possess a firearm, possession of a firearm after having been convicted of a felony, possession of a controlled substance, reckless handling of a firearm to endanger to endanger the life or limb of a child under 14, and abuse and neglect of children. He is being held without bond at the Middle River Regional Jail.
