Charlottesville, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Two integral pieces of the 2024 ACC championship UVA Baseball team will be returning to the squad after their names were not called at the 2024 MLB Draft. Righthander Jay Woolfolk and centerfielder Harrison Didawick both stated on social media that they will play another year in Charlottesville.
Woolfolk will enter his senior year in blue and orange. Last season, he pitched 62 and 1/3 innings for the Cavaliers, winning four games and striking out 67 of the 290 batters he faced. Many scouts praised his pitch mix and velocity but highlighted his struggles with control and lacking the endurance necessary to be a major league starter. On Instagram, he captioned his return announcement with two words, “One More.”
Didawick excelled in his sophomore season for the Cavaliers, slashing .292 with 13 doubles and 23 home runs, along with a .414 on-base percentage. His strikeout numbers may have struck some pundits as high (71 in 240 at-bats), but few could find holes in his game. With more room to grow, Harrison returns to the Cavaliers in 2025, saying on Instagram, “Job’s not finished.”
Griff O’Ferrall, Casey Saucke, and Ethan Anderson were picked by MLB teams in the 2024 MLB Draft. Saucke was chosen by the White Sox, while O’Ferrall and Anderson will be teammates once more on the Baltimore Orioles.
