CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA – (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – In the changing landscape of college athletics with multiple transfer portal windows throughout the year, college coaches have to constantly recruit their own players to stay on the roster while also pursuing others that can add productivity to the team.  Recently, UVA Women’s Basketball Coach Amaka Agugua-Hamilton had four players enter the transfer portal, and on Monday she announced her fourth addition to the team from the transfer portal.  Tuesday marks the start of a new window for men’s and women’s basketball players to transfer to other institutions and the latest addition for UVA Women’s Hoops is from the University of South Florida.  Coach Mox announced that Romi Levy would be joining the program for next season.   Levy will add length to the Cavaliers on the perimeter as she is 6-3 and averaged 14.7 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.2 assists.  She was an all AAC selection and previously spent time at Auburn and also played for the U18 Israeli National Team.  Coach Mox had the following thoughts on Levy’s addition to the team: ““She is a 6-3 versatile guard who can post up smaller players or take bigger players off the bounce. She can defend and rebound as well. Romi is a mature player who wants to be a part of something special and something bigger than herself. I can’t wait to get to work with her.” (virginiasports.com)

With student athletes transferring so frequently nowadays, the question for many UVA fans is whether the academic integrity of the institution will be impacted.  When asked if academics is still a part of the recruiting conversation, Cav Futures Executive Director Lo Davis shared the following with Morning News.  “I think the general public would be surprised that the student athletes and lets specifically talk about football the 19 young men that came to UVA, they all fit socially, they fit academically and certainly they are going to help us on the field.  I think if wasn’t for the investment that we have in this process, we would have never gotten the Hunter Osbournes and the Fisher Camacks and Mitchell Melton on grounds because those young men played high level football that ended up going to big time institutions but now, they come to Charlottesville and they’re like ‘oh wow’ this is like a hidden gem.”  Davis contends the financial benefit is merely a doorway to introduce the student athletes to what they can encounter academically an environmentally at the University.

That process continues tomorrow when the football transfer portal window opens for another 10 days.  Stay tuned to the Best Seat in the House weeknights at 5pm on WINA for updates.
