CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLERIGHTNOW) – The winter storm that moved into Virginia on Tuesday continues to affect road conditions, though the number of crashes has slowed as of Wednesday afternoon, according to Virginia State Police.

Since midnight on Feb. 11, state police have responded to 951 crashes statewide, including 95 with reported injuries. No fatalities have been reported. In the Appomattox Division—covering Charlottesville, Staunton, Lynchburg, and South Boston—there have been 121 crashes, with eight resulting in injuries.

State police are urging drivers to stay off the roads to allow the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) and emergency crews to clear roadways safely. People who have to travel are reminded to use headlights, reduce speed, avoid tailgating, wear seat belts, and check their vehicles for winter readiness. Drivers should also carry emergency supplies, including a window scraper, blanket, bottled water, and a flashlight.

For the latest road conditions, drivers can call 511 or visit the VDOT Virginia Traffic Information website. In case of an emergency, Virginians should call 911 or #77 from a cell phone to reach state police.
