RICHMOND, VA (CVILLERIGHTNOW) – Governor Youngkin has declared a state of emergency ahead of a winter storm expected to bring heavy snow, ice, and flooding across Virginia. The declaration allows the state to mobilize resources and warns residents to prepare for hazardous conditions.
“With another round of winter weather forecasted to bring heavy snow and ice, I am declaring a state of emergency so we can move resources around the state,” Youngkin said. He asked Virginians to monitor forecasts and prepare for road and infrastructure disruptions from Monday night into Tuesday.
The National Weather Service predicts snow, freezing rain, and excessive rainfall, which could cause power outages and dangerous travel conditions. The Virginia Emergency Support Team has been activated to coordinate response efforts.
The statement asked for drivers to use headlights, slow down, and maintain a safe distance from other vehicles. Locals are also advised to have emergency supplies, avoid unnecessary travel, and check on vulnerable neighbors. More preparedness tips are available at vaemergency.gov/winter-weather.
