Charlottesville, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – It’s a milestone year for News Radio WINA, celebrating its diamond anniversary. The station, which first hit the airwaves in October 1949 and now marks 75 years of serving the community.

In honor of this celebration, WINA is highlighting contributions from both past staff and prominent local figures. Former Virginia General Assembly delegate David Toscano joined WINA Morning News to reminisce about his experiences with WINA. Toscano, who has a long history of interviews with the station, praised WINA for its local service:

“An informed electorate is a better electorate, and an informed community is a better community,” Toscano shared, emphasizing the importance of keeping citizens updated on government matters.

Reflecting on his early interviews, Toscano recalled how WINA provided a platform for politicians to connect with their constituents. He also noted the professionalism of WINA’s staff over the years.

He stated that unlike the ‘gotcha’ journalism often seen today, WINA focused on helping people tell their stories, commending the station for creating constructive dialogue.

As WINA continues to serve the Charlottesville area and beyond, the station’s legacy remains tied to its commitment to local journalism and community service. You can stream live at cvillerightnow.com and listen to the full conversation here:
