William Carroll Yates was born to the late George Dewey Yates Jr and Lucy Mae Yates on August 10, 1949, in Charlottesville, VA. A loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother, and friend departed this life on Thursday, January 11, 2024, at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore, MD surrounded by family.

William “Billy” was preceded in death by his first wife, Ella Blair Yates and his siblings, Pearlie Mae Misiakowski, Ronald Yates, and George Yates.

Billy is survived by daughters, Teketia Smith (Devin) and Tashika Morris (James). He is also survived by wife, Dianne Hardison Yates; grandchildren, Jadelyn, William, and Kaleb Smith, and James (LJ) Morris.

Billy is also survived by his sisters, Mary Yates Holloway (Carl), Margaret Yates Gohaner (James), and Hattie Yates Hawkins (Levi); and a host of aunts, nieces, cousins, and friends.

William was a graduate of Burley High School, Class of 1967, and attended Piedmont Community College in Charlottesville, VA. He was a Veteran of the United States Army and was retired from Northrop Grumman.

Billy was a life-long member of Rose Hill Baptist Church, where he served as a trustee until he moved to Laurel, MD in 2020. He was also a Mason of Jefferson Lodge#20, a member of Cabby, and a member of King of Clubs.

Billy enjoyed hunting, fishing, travelling with his wife Dianne (Australia, Fiji, Portugal, Morocco, Spain, Dubai, and Egypt), spending time with family and friends and walking his dog /fur child Baki. Oh, and let’s not forget those Eagles and Steelers that he loved to root for!
