CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Jennifer Crews, Program Director at the Center at Belvedere, recently engaged in a discussion on the perception of old age. Crews emphasized that defining old age varies widely based on individual perspectives and lifestyles.
Crews reflected, “I remember when I was in my 20s, I thought my parents at 45 were really old, but now I don’t think so.” This highlights how perceptions of age evolve over time. She stressed that age is more about lifestyle and health choices than a specific number. Data from the University of Vermont Health Network supports this, indicating that 80% of aging is determined by lifestyle choices.
Crews also highlighted the Center at Belvedere’s programs designed to keep older adults active and engaged. “We have instructors in their 90s, including a fitness instructor, and I would not call that particular 91-year-old old,” she noted.
