CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLERIGHTNOW) – Each week Anand Harsh of 106.1 The Corner will direct your attention to the music and arts events happening in Charlottesville and surrounding areas that you absolutely can’t miss. These are at the very minimum shows you should hit if you’re in the neighborhood all the way up to cancel-your-plans, call the sitter, and buy your tickets right now because this is the biggest thing since sliced bread.

Steeped in traditional bluegrass, but with a fresh attitude and a fun song selection, Baltimore’s Dirty Grass Players are a can’t-miss act for anyone whose musical predilections tend towards Americana.

Baseball is fun again! Not only did UVA’s baseball team snap its 5-game losing streak, but it swept the Stanford Cardinal over the weekend and notched Coach Brian O’Connor his 900th win. The Hoos take on Old Dominion this Tuesday and it’s looking like the off-season rust has finally been shaken off.

CHECK IT OUT

  • Apr 2: Improv Night @ Decipher Brewing – The first Wednesday of every month is improv night at Decipher Brewing, and the best part about this particular improv show is that even if it’s not your cup of tea, it’s free. Now that being said, Bent Theatre has been churning out laughs for over two decades, so these players know exactly what they’re doing.
  • Apr 5: Sushi Class @ Crozet Seafood Supply (Charlottesville) – Chef Ririka is going to demonstrate how to roll and prepare sushi, which is not only fun and delicious, but could save you hundreds on your annual sushi budget.
  • Apr 5: Cocktail Masterclass @ The Aspen Bar – It’s Aperol Hour at Birch & Bloom and though that doesn’t particularly mean anything to me, it will to you after you take this class and learn how to make three new and exciting cocktails.

DROP IN

  • Mar 31: Will It Waffle? @ Gordon Avenue Library – I am a sucker for marketing, and though I’m not between the recommended ages of 9-14 I am dying to know the answer. This culinary inquisition asks participants to grab their waffle irons, throw out their expectations, and ask “Will it waffle?”
