CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLERIGHTNOW) – Whether you’re looking to take in cinematic short films, indie-folk brilliance, or a string-backed Coldplay tribute, there’s plenty to explore across the region. Each week, Anand Harsh of 106.1 The Corner will direct your attention to the music and arts events happening in Charlottesville and surrounding areas that you absolutely can’t miss. These are, at the very minimum, shows you should hit if you’re in the neighborhood—all the way up to cancel-your-plans, call the sitter, and buy your tickets right now.
Anand’s Picks: Concert & Events
CALL THE SITTER
- March 29: Pinkish @ Book Club
Pinkish is my favorite local band and Book Club is one of my favorite places to play in Charlottesville. It’s a hidden, DIY gem that you’re just going to have to do the tiniest bit of digging to learn more about. But it’s worth the effort, I guarantee it.

- March 28: Sheng Wang @ The Paramount
Sheng Wang is one of the funniest comedians on the scene, and he’s coming to The Paramount this weekend. He put in his time as a writer on the hit sitcom Fresh Off the Boat but is taking center stage behind viral clips of his stand-up.
CHECK IT OUT
- March 28: Palmyra @ The Jefferson Theater
A fresh-faced take on Americana is exactly what Palmyra is providing with their new record Restless. They hit the Jefferson Theater the same day their album drops to celebrate the release of this Virginia-based trio’s exciting new material. All three of these folks can shred, and their harmonies are a thing of beauty. - March 26: Charcuterie Class @ Well Hung Vineyard (Gordonsville, VA)
The place has a funny name and the promise of meats and cheeses has gotten me a little charcurious. No vino for me, but I’ll take a handful of hard salami out of the barrel. - March 25: Open Pickleball Play @ Taylor Rec Center
The Parks & Rec department is giving Cville locals an opportunity to pick up the fastest growing sport in the country. Here’s your shot to see what the fuss is all about in this mostly low impact “sport.” I say that with almost zero derision.
DROP IN
- March 24: Teen D&D Campaign @ Gordon Avenue Library
Your bard sings an uncomfortable song about halitosis and the ogre is stunned into dropping her spiked mace! Teens can gather at the Gordon Avenue branch of the Jefferson-Madison Regional Library to play Dungeons & Dragons. There’s honestly no better way to spend an afternoon.
