- July 19: R4NDAZZO BIG B4ND & Charles Owens Trio @ The Southern Cafe & Music Hall
You know Andrew Randazzo from Richmond’s pre-eminent jazz and neo-soul outfit, Butcher Brown. Well he’s bringing his big band to the Southern alongside sax man Charles Owens’ trio. These are some of the slickest cats in the area, and they absolutely know how to throw down. Don’t sleep on this show, it’s going to be funky, soulful, and you’re going to catch some impressive musicianship.

- July 19: Bring Out Yer Dead @ Jefferson Theater
I’m a sucker for a solid Grateful Dead tribute act, and this particular outfit comprised of some of Raleigh’s best shredders fits the bill. It’s a night of the Dead, if the thunder don’t get ya then the lightning will.
CHECK IT OUT
- July 18: J Roddy Walston & The Automatic Band @ Ting Pavilion
A band that defies categorization is a fun thing to watch. J Roddy Walston is a sum of his influences and then some. It’ll be a fun afternoon out with the family and the show is free, so may as well come see what the fuss is all about. - July 18: Ashes Reign, Four Thirty Four & Vara Alta @ The Southern Cafe & Music Hall
South of Heaven brings three central Virginia metal acts to Charlottesville to demonstrate where the scene is right now. It’s great to see them carry the torch for metal in this area. - July 19: Lukas Nelson @ Jefferson Theater
Don’t go into a Lukas Nelson show expecting to see a Willie Nelson show. The kid is more straight-ahead country, no real outlaw ballads or dope-smoking hippie tunes. Just a solid country act, and that’s not a bad thing!
