CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLERIGHTNOW) – Whether you’re looking to take in cinematic short films, indie-folk brilliance, or a string-backed Coldplay tribute, there’s plenty to explore across the region. Each week, Anand Harsh of 106.1 The Corner will direct your attention to the music and arts events happening in Charlottesville and surrounding areas that you absolutely can’t miss. These are, at the very minimum, shows you should hit if you’re in the neighborhood—all the way up to cancel-your-plans, call the sitter, and buy your tickets right now.

CALL THE SITTER
- July 5: Bob Log III @ The Southern Cafe & Music Hall
He’s a one-man slide guitar and kick drum band in a motorcycle helmet fitted with a microphone. What more could you ask for? This is the kind of odd performance art and ingenuity of spirit that I truly love. Also, I respect anyone who refuses to deal with the trap of having bandmates.

- July 1: Into the Woods @ Culbreth Hall
If you’re a fan of the theater, Sondheim specifically, or you just want to see a really good show, I can’t think of a better night out than Into the Woods. It’s got big songs, big laughs, and it’s part of the Virginia Theatre Festival, so these are no amateurs. Plus on Tuesday, there’s a post-show discussion with the principal cast and the director.
CHECK IT OUT
- July 4: Theocles & Kendall Street Company @ Ting Pavilion
This is the biggest Fridays After Five of the season, not only because it’s July 4th, but because two of our favorite locals are the stars of the show. I’ll also be giving away free 106.1 The Corner t-shirts while supplies last. - July 5: Big Laird Band @ Pro Re Nata (Crozet, VA)
It’s a rock and roll retrospective from 1969-2005 covering metal, alternative, grunge, and punk. Great music in a beautiful setting with tons of great drinks.
