PARIS, FRANCE (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – UVA fourth-year swimmer Gretchen Walsh has qualified for the final of the 100-meter freestyle Tuesday afternoon, giving her a chance to earn her third medal of the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Walsh finished third earlier today in the second heat of the 100-meter freestyle. She took the pool in the first semi-final of the event, starting strong on the first length of the race. However, Siobhan Haughey of Hong Kong took the win, with Walsh finishing fourth, half a second off the lead.

Walsh’s opponent in the 100-meter butterfly final, Arlington, Virginia native Torri Huske, also finished fourth in her semi-final. The two Americans qualified for the 100-meter freestyle final with the seventh and eighth best times respectively between the two races. The final will take place tomorrow (Wednesday) at 2:30 p.m. EST.
