CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA. (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) — Virginia men’s golf competed in the NCAA Championship this past week but failed to return to match play at the NCAA Championship as it had done the previous three years.

The ‘Hoos needing to finish in the top eight after the final round of stroke play to advance, fell short by three strokes, ending their season. UVA as a team shot 288 in the final round, good for even par.

The bottom four squads in the top eight, UCLA, Stanford, Tennessee and North Carolina all finished at -2, in a four-way tie for seventh place.  UVA finished in 11th place.

While their season came to an end, Virginia’s individual stars locked in their places in the PGA Tour University leaderboard. All playing in their final rounds as Cavaliers, senior Bryan Lee finished 17th while graduate student Paul Chang finished in 13th, each notching a place in the Americas PGA Tour.

Finally, senior Ben James concluded the season where he stood in the University standings every week throughout the year — first.  James is just the second player since the University standings were created to occupy first place in every week of the season.

In the NCAA Championship, James finished 3-under 69, good for 5-under in the tournament, sinking four birdies along the way and finishing in 16th position.  Lee shot better towards the end, with three birdies in the final four holes, but finished in 28th place.  Chang finished in joint-61st, Josh Duangmanee joint-65th, and freshman Michael Lee finished his first NCAA tournament in joint-72nd.

Former wahoo Rafael Jodar continued his run through the French Open at Roland Garros against the tournament’s number two seed, German Alexander Zverev.  Jodar started the quarterfinals well, losing set one by a slim margin of 7-6.  But Zverev took the remainder of the match comfortably 7-6 (7-3) 6-1 6-3, ending Jodar’s tournament.  All-in-all, Jodar took four victories in the 2026 French Open.
