CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW)- Virginia Field Hockey, the No. 2 squad in the nation, went into last week following its first loss of the year.  It began by earning a hard-fought victory against the No. 7 Liberty Flames, 1-0 in Charlottesville.

Following that, the Hoos hit the road to Williamsburg to battle William & Mary on Sunday. Virginia’s offensive frustration manifested into a blowout of the Tribe. Catalina Quinteros hammered a brace, while three other Hoos found the net in a 5-0 triumph for UVA.

Another road trip awaits this week, with the Hoos headed to Kentucky to face Louisville on Friday.

Men’s Soccer: Men’s soccer had to tangle with No. 19 UNCG once again, after a draw when it came to Klockner last year.  Sebastian Pop thundered the Hoos ahead in the 11th minute.  The Spartans equalized on a free kick in the second half though, and the match ended in a 1-1 draw.

Against Denver on Sunday afternoon, Virginia earned the win thanks to goals from Reese Miller and Umberto Pela, giving it the 2-1 win.

Volleyball: Volleyball took on the Virginia Tech Hokies twice last week, going to Blacksburg first, then taking to the court at John Paul Jones Arena for the final time this season.

Tech took an early lead in Blacksburg before the Hoos fought back and won the match with three set victories in a row.  Wednesday ended 3-2 in favor of Virginia.  At JPJ on Sunday though, the Hokies had no chance, with Virginia rattling off three straight set wins to sweep VT out of Charlottesville.

The Hoos hit the road to Florida for matches against FSU and Miami on Friday and Sunday.

Women’s Soccer: Women’s soccer was finally defeated by the Stanford Cardinal on the road, and another road test awaited the Hoos last week on the road at the Louisville Cardinals.

Maggie Cagle got the scoring started a minute into the second half, her seventh of the season.  Unfortunately for UVA, another late goal, similar to the one the backline conceded against California, took two points from them again.  The match finished Louisville 1, Virginia 1.  Florida State and Pitt will visit Klockner for matches with the Hoos this week for a Thursday night, and Sunday afternoon match.

Football: Football, now ranked at No. 16 in the nation, welcomed the Washington State Cougars to Scott Stadium on Homecomings Weekend.  The offense had some difficulty scoring on the stout Cougar defense, and a stellar second quarter for the visitors, Virginia found themselves down by a touchdown going into the fourth quarter. Harrison Waylee and Will Bettridge tied the game, before Kam Robinson tackled Washington State RB Kirby Voorhees in the end zone to end the game for Virginia, the Wahoos won 22-20.

UNC awaits next week as the Hoos hit the road for a noon kickoff on Oc.t 25.

More action: Women’s golf finished fourth in the Stanford Intercollegiate in California over the weekend.  Virginia Rowing finished top amongst collegiate boats at St. Charles Regatta in Boston.  UVA Men’s Tennis Rafael Jodar, competing in the ATP Challenger in Lincoln, Nebraska, won the singles title.  Lastly, Virginia Cross Country, the No. 4 men and No. 12 women, topped the team standings in both races at the Panorama Farms Invitational on Friday evening.
