BLACKSBURG, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Virginia Tech has named now former Marquette head coach Megan Duffy as its women’s basketball head coach. In five seasons at Marquette, she guided the Golden Eagles to the NCAA Tournament the last two with an overall 110 win, 46 loss record… including 64-and-30 in the Big East. Athletics Director Whit Babcock says she’s signed a 6-year contract and is “an accomplished player and coach, with a relentless work ethic and demonstrated ability to develop talent and build successful programs”.

As a player, Duffy was a four-year letterwinner at Notre Dame from 2002 to 2006, helping the Irish to four straight NCAA appearances and two Sweet 16 berths. She replaces Waynesboro native Kenny Brooks, who left for Kentucky after leading the Hokies to the Final Four the season before last, then losing to Baylor in the NCAA Tournament’s 2nd round this past season.
