RICHMOND (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Virginia State Police announced Tuesday executive staff restructuring and promotions, including the first woman in history to lead its Bureau of Criminal Investigation. Caren Sterling has been promoted to Lt. Colonel and will lead the BCI. She’ll be co-director for the time being alongside Lt. Colonel Timothy Lyon upon his July 1 retirement.
Newly-appointed State Police Superintendent Matthew Hanley has promoted Lt. Colonel Keenan Smith as Deputy Superintendent. He’s a grad of the University of Virginia’s National Criminal Justice Command College. The complete restructuring and promotions announcement is below.
