RICHMOND (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – A new poll shows many drivers in the Commonwealth admit to engaging in distracted driving practices even while acknowledging the dangers associated with them. April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month and the poll by DRIVE SMART Virginia found 66% of residents admitted to driving distraced recently. At the same time, DRIVE SMART and DMV note this is even while 83% consider smartphone use without driving hands-free is “extremely” or “very” dangerous.

DRIVE SMART, DMV, VDOT, and Virginia State Police are urging motorists to keep their heads up and eyes on the road. They say in too many cases, motorists are engaging with their smartphone, eating or drinking, or simply not paying attention on the road which leads to tragic consequences.
