Harrisonburg, VA (cvillerightnow.com): Virginia Women’s Lacrosse won a thrilling if nerve-wracking victory in a ranked battle against the #14 JMU dukes yesterday. Two quick goals in the opening minutes spurred the Hoos on to take early control of the game before the Dukes fought their way into the contest with a strong end to the first quarter. After going back and forth in the second quarter, the Dukes outscored the Hoos 6-2 in the third to make the visitors sweat, before veteran attacker Addi Foster put two into the back of the cage in the final seven minutes of the game to put the game away. The Hoos beat the Dukes 14-11. Foster led all Hoos with five points, Kate Galica equaled Foster’s goal total with three, and did Payton Sfreddo. Alex Riley and Gabby Laveghetta both notched two goals. Abby Jansen played lockdown goal, making three saves on five shots in the fourth quarter alone. Home action awaits this weekend for the Hoos. Their opponents will be the Pitt Panthers, and action begins at 3:00 PM in Klockner Stadium.
