CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – The Virginia women’s basketball team opened ACC play with a 72-57 loss to Boston College on Thursday at John Paul Jones Arena. The Cavaliers (6-5, 0-1 ACC) faced an early deficit and struggled to recover against the Eagles (7-4, 1-0 ACC).

Latasha Lattimore led Virginia with a season-high 23 points on 10-of-12 shooting and added nine rebounds. Kymora Johnson contributed 11 points, reaching double figures for the 11th straight game, and recorded a career-high six steals.

Boston College took control early, building a first-quarter lead behind a dominant performance from T’yana Todd, who scored 19 points in the first half, including five three-pointers. Virginia trailed by 13 at halftime and fell behind by as many as 18 points in the third quarter. Despite a strong fourth quarter from Lattimore, the Cavaliers couldn’t close the gap.

Head Coach Amaka Agugua-Hamilton addressed the team’s struggles after the game. “Obviously, we’re in some adversity right now. We’ve got to get our confidence back. We’ve got to get back on the same page, get some people healthy. Can’t keep turning the ball over the way we are, we have to value that. Obviously, didn’t shoot it well from the three or the free throw line, and that was the difference in the game,” she said.

Virginia will return to John Paul Jones Arena on Tuesday, December 17, to face Maryland Eastern Shore at 7 p.m.
