LOUISVILLE, KY- (CVILLE RIGHT NOW)- A rough stretch continues for the Virginia Men’s Basketball team as they dropped their 5th straight game and second loss of the year to the Louisville Cardinals 81-67 Saturday afternoon. The Hoos had early offensive struggles, but did find a way to go on a couple of mini runs in the second half to pull closer to Louisville, but ultimately the Cardinals kept the Hoos at bay leading by as many as 20 points during the contest. With the loss, Virginia fall to 1-6 in the ACC and 8-10 overall on the season. The Hoos were lead by a double double performance from forward Elijah Saunders who scored 19 points with 10 rebounds and Isaac McNeely contributed 10 points and they were the only two Cavaliers in double figures. Afterwards Interim Head Coach Ron Sanchez was very complimentary of the Cardinals who are 14-5 overall and 7-1 in the ACC.
“They’re playing really good basketball,” Virginia’s interim head coach, Ron Sanchez, said. “The one thing that impresses me most about them is the way they share the ball. I believe the ball has energy, and the more you touch it, the better you feel. I think they have really good synergy, really good energy. They’re cheerleaders of each other. You watch them play, and they’re very happy when a teammate makes a play. Pat has done a fantastic job of, in such a short time, implementing a very positive culture of unity and sharing and just positivity.”
The Hoos return home for a 7p.m. contest against Boston College on Tuesday night, coverage on WINA begins at 6p.m.
