CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW)- The Cavalier Men’s Basketball team got off to a winning start in a very different season opener than the last fifteen years, because Tony Bennett was not on the sidelines. Interim Head Coach Ron Sanchez described the experience: “It was very emotional; I thought to myself I only need 363 more [wins] to catch Tony”. The Hoos were led by freshman Jacob Cofie, who was 7-8 from the floor with 16 points, and the Cavs also got double figures from Isaac Mckneely and transfer forward Elijah Saunders. Virginia did show some of the offensive improvement that fans wanted to see shooting 57 percent from the field, and an impressive 46% from the three-point line which was a welcome sight for the Wahoo faithful.
