ATLANTA, GA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – The Virginia Baseball team (24-16, 11-10 ACC) seems to be hitting their stride at just the right time as they went to Atlanta over the weekend and took two of three from the 24th ranked Yellow Jackets.  It started on Friday with an impressive offensive performance where the Hoos produced 12 runs, most of which came in the fourth inning when they plated seven of them.  UVA Freshman James Nunnally was the standout in game one going 4-4 with three RBI’s and three runs scored in the contest.  Then in game two, it was all about the pitching performance from Bradley Hodges in his first career ACC start going seven innings and only surrendering only 1 run on 2 hits in the contest and striking out seven jackets as well.  Following the win, it put Virginia at a record of 5-1 against ranked opponents, so despite some of their uncharacteristic struggles this season, they have played well against ranked teams.

In game three the Yellow Jackets salvaged one game in the series winning 7-6 in extra innings.  UVA had led the contest 6-3 before surrendering two home runs in the later innings to send the competition into extras and then a solo deep ball to earn the walk off win in the bottom of the tenth inning.  Up next the Cavs will host VCU in a midweek contest at 8p.m. on Tuesday at Davenport Field at Disharoon Park.  Coverage on WINA begins at 7:45 p.m. with “First Pitch” with Marshall Lemert.
