CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) The Virginia Baseball team is currently in a fight to obtain a postseason opportunity as they are currently projected as one of the first four teams out of the NCAA Tournament according to some prognosticators. So, the margin for error is small in the midweek and the Cavaliers held off VCU 9-8 Tuesday night at Davenport Field and Disharoon Park. The Cavs were paced by a big fourth inning in which they scored six runs, and the Hoos were led offensively by Henry Ford, who was 3-4 at the plate with a three-run homerun as well. On the mound the Hoos received a strong performance from Kevin Jaxel who threw three scoreless innings surrendering only 2 hits. The Rams closed within 9-8 in the top of the ninth, but the Hoos were able to hold them off defensively as Matt Lazendorfer produced the fourth strike out of the night for the pitching staff to seal the win. Up next, the Hoos will close out the midweek before heading into exams with a 3:00p.m. contest against Navy and coverage on WINA will begin at 2:45p.m. with our official pregame show “First Pitch with Marshall Lemert”.
The game time was adjusted in preparation for expected thunderstorms on Wednesday evening.
