RICHMOND, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Virginia is among 30 states and the federal government filing a lawsuit against Live Nation and Ticketmaster alleging violation of antitrust laws. State Attorney General Jason Miyares says Live Nation’s and Ticketmaster’s “stronghold over the live entertainment industry has harmed artists, venues, and small businesses, leaving consumers with less choice and exorbitant fees”.
U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland in announcing the suit in Washington said, “We allege that live nation has illegally monopolized markets across the live concert industry in the United States for far too long. It is time to break it up.”
Miyares says “Virginia consumers and businesses deserve a free marketplace for products, services, and ideas – and breaking up Ticketmaster and Live Nation will allow for competition and innovation to return to the live entertainment industry.”
