CHARLOTTESVILLE (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Albemarle Police have released a mainly encouraging annual report showing major crimes and fatal traffic crashes down in the county in 2024. In a message in the report from Chief Col. Sean Reeves, he says the milestones “underscore dedication to public safety and community trust”. Fatal traffic crashes, which the Chief has expressed frustration on WINA over the past few years, decreased 22% from 2023… not the zero goal, but better. All categories of the most serious crimes in the county were down with the exception of aggravated assault which remained the same. However, Part One offenses were down 13.5%… with homicide down 67%. Calls for service were down 3%, with mental health calls for service up 7% which he says reflects ACPD’s commitment supporting those in need.
