AUGUSTA COUNTY, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Virginia State Police has identified the victims of Tuesday’s crash on eastbound Interstate 64 eastbound at mile marker 89, located between the I-64/I-81 interchange and the Fishersville exit.

A 2026 Freightliner TMA crash truck, travelling eastbound, overcorrected and ran off of the right side of the interstate.  The truck then went through the guardrail, down an embankment, struck a tree, and overturned on its side.

A truck-mounted attenuator (TMA) is a safety device consisting of an energy-absorbing material mounted on the rear of a truck to protect road workers and drivers in work zones by absorbing the impact of a collision.

Both the driver and passenger in the truck died at the scene.   The driver has been identified as Georgeanna L. Hardesty, 51, of Iron Gate, Va.   The passenger has been identified as Sabrina L. Harris, 50, of Covington, Va.   Both were wearing seatbelts.

The crash remains under investigation.
